The Champi Warrior fills a similar niche to that of the Long Swordsmen, but with quirks and statistics similar to an Eagle Warrior's that makes the unit effective at raiding. As with its predecessor, the Champi Warrior upgrade gives a lot of value, with +15 hit points, +4 base attack, +1 attack against siege units, +1 attack against buildings, and armor, and should be researched quickly if the line is seeing even moderate use. Champi Warriors are the basic infantry units for South American civilizations in the Castle Age. For the Muisca, Incas, and Tupi, it is the best unit for raiding, while the Mapuche have Bolas Riders and Konas. They are fairly strong, being able to defeat standard Castle Age units except the Knight, Cavalry Archer, and Long Swordsman in one-on-one combat. They are weak against almost all heavy cavalry and most other infantry, and are also vulnerable to Monks, but good against Pikemen, Light Cavalry, Camel Riders, Elite Skirmishers, Eagle Warriors, and most siege units. Considering the South American civilizations' limited tech trees, this unit is used often, despite requiring two upgrades and having low hit points, since their value as a raiding unit that can counter siege units and most archers surpasses these drawbacks. Champi Warriors are also the South Americans' answer to shock infantry or units with low melee armor, such as Gothic Huskarls. Champi Warriors should be supported by Slingers for countering enemy Monks and infantry, Pikemen for countering cavalry, and Skirmishers or Mangonels against archers. Each civilization with access to the Champi Warrior has specialties that make their use slightly different: === === Inca Champi Warriors cost 25% less food in the Castle Age, making them easier to train. The Incas have a stone discount on the Outpost. Incan Champi Warriors pair well with Kamayuks that can counter heavy cavalry, while the Champi Warrior can deal with siege units and archers, two important weaknesses of the Kamayuk. === === Mapuche Champi Warriors have +10 hit points, putting them even above the hit points of a generic Long Swordsman. However, they lack Squires, making them the slowest Champi Warriors of all. Mapuche Champi Warriors can still be used for raiding, and in many circumstances they can be combined with Mapuche cavalry, but it is preferable to use them more as a traditional "basic infantry" that can counter the trash units of opponents. === === Muisca Champi Warriors have +2 melee armor in the Castle Age, but lack Arson. This makes them better against other Castle Age melee units in general, but less effective against buildings. Their additional armor even surpasses the base armor of a generic Long Swordsman, enabling the Muisca Champi warrior to defeat this unit fairly easily. They have Settlements that can heal 15 hit points per minute in the Castle Age, and this helps the player to perform raids, as their Champi Warriors can receive some damage and then retreat to the closest Settlement and heal. Champi Warriors make a good complement to both Guecha Warriors, which can counter archers, and Temple Guards, which counter cavalry and are excellent against buildings because of their ability. Herbalism improves their movement speed, making them the best raiders of all Champi Warriors, able to force fights and then retreat more effectively. === === Tupi Champi Warriors return 15% of the resources invested in them, so if the raid fails and the player loses their Champi Warriors, the loss will be partially mitigated. With their technology Caciques that increases their attack speed, they became a hard counter to siege units - something the Tupi army needs, as they rely on large masses of archers that struggle against units such as Mangonels. Upgrading the Champi line cost 50% less food, so the player can begin producing Champi Warriors more easily.
Consejos
- Commander, the Champi Warrior is the full realization of the Champi line's potential. No longer a mere scout or raider, this warrior is a dedicated anti-ranged specialist with +4 bonus damage against Archers. At 1.1 speed with 3 pierce armor, the Champi Warrior can walk into Crossbowmen and Cavalry Archers and tank their shots. With 55 HP and 9 attack, they are real combatants in their own right. They share the Eagle Warrior armor class, meaning they benefit from the same bonuses and vulnerabilities. Use them to hunt down archer-heavy compositions and protect your own siege or infantry from ranged harassment. In Castle Age, a group of Champi Warriors is the nightmare of any archer-based strategy.aoecoach
- The Eagle Warrior armor class means you take bonus damage from Champions, Cataphracts, and Jaguar Warriors. Cavalry is also dangerous with your modest 55 HP. Avoid melee specialists.aoecoach
