Lancero de Fuego Élite

The Elite Fire Lancer is the only infantry in the game that does not cost food. It has a ranged ability attack, making it one of the few units in the game capable of dealing pierce and melee damage, though not at the same time. Their ranged charged attack works great against masses of units, in particular slower-moving units like other infantry. This means they can be a counter to infantry units such as Teutonic Knights if the player micromanages them properly and uses hit-and-run tactics. Despite being able to kite some other infantry, Elite Fire Lancers should avoid direct combat against heavy infantry due to the high attack bonus they have against them. They should also avoid encounters with the Condottiero (due to its anti-gunpowder attack bonus) and units with attack bonuses against infantry, such as Hand Cannoneers. When fighting in melee, the Elite Fire Lancer is a good counter against cavalry units. However, Halberdiers are still much better in this role. The Elite Fire lancer is a very versatile unit able to deal with most army compositions if properly supported by units that cover their weaknesses.
